POS software in Kenya — the questions before the demo
Short answers to what Kenyan merchants ask us most. More detail on the blog, or write to [email protected].
What POS software do shops in Kenya use?
BiznaPOS is a cloud point-of-sale system used by shops, restaurants, bars, pharmacies and hardware stores across Kenya. It runs in the browser on any desktop, tablet or phone, keeps stock and customer records in one place and takes M-Pesa and card payments at the till.
Does BiznaPOS work when the internet goes down?
Yes. The POS is an installable PWA, so a till keeps ringing up sales, printing receipts and holding payments when the connection drops, then syncs every transaction back to the cloud once the network returns. Nothing is lost and reports stay accurate across branches.
Can BiznaPOS take M-Pesa payments?
Yes. M-Pesa STK-push is built in, so the customer gets the prompt on their phone from the sale screen and the payment is reconciled against that sale automatically. Cash, card, bank transfer, store credit, loyalty points and gift cards are supported alongside it, including split payments.
How much does a POS system cost in Kenya?
The Starter plan is free forever for a single counter with up to 500 products. Pro is 49 US dollars a month for up to five stores with unlimited products, M-Pesa, loyalty and advanced analytics. Enterprise is 149 US dollars a month for chains with custom branding, roles and API access. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial and needs no card.
Can one account run several branches?
Yes. One dashboard covers every branch, warehouse and till, with stock transfers between locations, per-branch pricing and permissions, and consolidated stock counts so a multi-store business reconciles in minutes instead of days.
Do I need to buy new hardware or servers?
No. BiznaPOS is hosted, so there is no server to buy or maintain. Existing computers, tablets and phones work as tills, along with the receipt printers, barcode scanners and cash drawers the point of sale already supports.
